Not only due to his trading activities Emil Possehl has always been depending on effective traffic routes. However, Lübeck as his company´s location has not been ideally seated. That was one of the main reasons for Emil Possehl to campaign for traffic matters: Chiefly upon his initiative the Elbe-Lübeck-Channel and, thus, Lübeck´s access to the national waterways was built. Additionally, Possehl did business in traffic affairs: Shipping companies and harbour operating services which in the beginning exclusively served the Group´s ore activities increasingly did business with third parties.

Historically, these are the origins of the services segment. The continuous success of these activities made clear that the decision for running service operations has always been accurate. Even though nowadays there are only few companies left that have built up the services segment: Possehl very early got aware of the importance of this business sector. All over the years, Possehl has enshrined a small but effective business segment.

One thing becomes apparent if looking at Possehl´s services segment: Possehl´s deep connection to Lübeck as each of the actual services companies is located in the Hanseatic city.
