Right from the start the trading segment has had an elementary relevance for Possehl for this is the economic origin of today´s globally acting Group. In the beginning Possehl traded with iron and coal in Lübeck - nowadays Possehl companies supply all around the globe.

Why has trading been the initial point ? Founder Ludwig Possehl had finished his mercantile apprenticeship in Lübeck, which was stamped by the merchants´ business and, thus was called "Queen of the Hanseatic League". Historical channels of commerce, harbour, merchants dominating Lübeck´s commercial and political life - good reasons for starting entrepreneurship especially in the trading business.

Today´s trading activities are not confined to merely being a supplier or agent for certain goods. In the meantime many auxiliary services have been added to the range of offers. Processing and customizing are important parts of Possehl´s one-stop proposals provided to the customers.

One basic reason for success have ever been the close and trustful relations between Possehl and its business partners. Trading business depends on these factors more than many other commercial sectors. Possehl traditionally subsists long-term and intensive connections with its customers and suppliers to the benefit of both sides. For this reliance creates not only mutual confidence but also enables the business partners to continue necessary dialogue.

The International Trading division very well exemplified a model for the active management of business relations. Being the first Europe-wide supplier of formerly unknown raw materials for specific industrial applications Possehl hast set initial innovative spirit. Nowadays, these raw materials are indispensable parts of industrial processes.

Throughout its history Possehl has been focussed on the trading segment - and is, referring to this, well prepared for the future. For more than 160 years Possehl has been and will presumably be constantly modernizing its trading activities owed to changing market conditions. Historically, some divisions have been added to the Group, others have been sold or shut down. Persistent innovation, questioning the previous and the readiness for always meeting new challenges have made Possehl continuously successful, especially in the trading segment.
